Xbox Executive Speaks – Xbox One bashing

At the wake of much Xbox One bashing over the Internet, Xbox Executive Don Mattrick, gives his advice!

In other words….

Screw You non – Internet users.

What Xbox fails to realize is that, those of us who are bashing the Xbox One HAVE internet, obviously we do, because we have gotten on the Internet to bash Xbox One!!

My opinion

I’ll be honest with you, as redundant as the constant online connection is to me, it is not the main complaint I have with the Xbox One console, I think I speak for many when I say that the main problem we are having is the fact that after 7 years of waiting for the next Xbox, we have gotten something that appears to be a step down from the former.

The ability to sell and buy used games…period. Xbox, PS, whatever, should be the right of the consumer. Anytime I spend money on anything, that something becomes MINE. I should be free to do whatever I want with that item.

Can you imagine what would happen if every manufacturer placed a “no-resell” rule to the items they sold /Can you say “goodbye” Ebay! The day of Goodwill donating and Garage sale’s would be over!

This is fueled by none other than GREED!!!

Microsoft knows that there are plenty of gamers out there who wait to buy used games because they don’t want to shell out the money for the new games, but SO WHAT!

After taking a few business courses in college. I’ve learned that loyal customers (though they may be few compared to the vast consumer market) will pay big bucks for items from brands they love. Look at Apple for example. Apple thrives because they know that no matter how overpriced their products are they have loyal customers who will buy them.

No matter how much a game is, there will be LOYAL gamers who will buy them. THOSE are the consumers that should be targeted, not the others who can do with or without the game. By making a no-resell rule, Xbox is isolating those who DON’T WANT to pay $40 + dollars for every video game they buy. These consumers aren’t going to miraculously change their stance! They are going to skip buying a new console altogether or they will buy a PS4.

This still leaves Microsoft with those LOYAL customers, but now they are loosing Console sales on TOP of video game sales!

For me personally, the only video game I really play on Xbox is the Halo Series. These are the only games that I’ve every bought new, any others games I’ve tried I have bought used and/or rented. If I’m not able to buy used games, I have no incentive to buy an Xbox One!

Playstation 4 vs Xbox One

Today Playstation 4 came out throwing punches at the Xbox One console.

Playstation Officials announced that the Playstation 4 would cost only $399!!

They also announced that the PS4 games would not need to be connected to the internet in order to play them. Additionally, in a major “slap-in- the-face” to XBox, this comical video was posted on Youtube, showing users exactly how they can SHARE PS4 games with their friends.

So, here’s a comparison of what we know so far about the two consoles:

Voice Command

The Xbox One allows you to switch between gaming, tv, music, and apps without switching inputs and all with the sound of your voice. During the live launching, it appeared that these functions took place instantly, a step up from the lag and subsequent irritation that comes with trying to use the current  Kinect voice command, but of course we’d have to try it for ourselves to know for certain.

Online Gaming

Xbox live has gotten some updates with this new generation Xbox. Xbox has partnered with Switch, bringing a brand new online gaming experience to the console. They have also made sharing much easier.

According to Microsoft, you must connect online with the Xbox One at least once every 24 hours when at home or once every hour if you are playing at a friends house. If you fail to do this, you will not be able to play your games offline until the reconnection is establish.

The Playstation 4 does not require online connectivity

Game Availability

With the new Xbox One new release games will be made available in Digital form. You will be able to purchase them online on release day through your xbox console, instead of waiting in long lines at retailers.

Even if you opt to buy a disc game, once you have uploaded the game to your Xbox One, it will be stored in the cloud for future play. You will no longer need to use the disc to play your games. You will even be able to play your game from another Xbox One console, by signing into your account.

Playstation 4 has partnered with Gaikai to make Playstation titles available over the cloud. This function will become available in 2014 to PS3 and PS4 owners owners first, followed by PSVITA.

Game Sharing

The Xbox One has restricted the sharing of games to your “family members”. You will not be able to loan or share games at the launch of the Xbox One. However, according to Microsoft, you will be able to give your disc based game to a friend who has been on your friends list for at least 30 days, and such transfer of any one game can only take place once.

Microsoft says that you will be able to resell your games, however, they have left this option entirely up to the publishers and the exact details of which publishers, if any, will allow this, remains a mystery

On the other hand, Playstation 4 boldly announced that they are placing no restrictions on game sells, sharing and/or trading.
